Swan attack

WE were appalled to read of the incident concerning the attack on the swan at Melton Country Park by an out of control dog.

The owner should have been well aware thanks to the notices situated around the park that there are clearly defined areas where dogs are allowed under control. It is the owner's absolute responsibility for their dog and its behaviour.

They must have realised the swan was injured but did nothing as the RSPCA had no knowledge whatsoever of this until it was reported to them the following Friday. By that time the swan had been in considerable distress and intolerable heat for six days. Did the owner not think to report the incident and take the necessary action or did they just not care?

We have a lovely amenity in the Country Park. Please do not allow the few to spoil it for the many who take great pleasure in all that it has to offer.
