Nominating Mr Wright to be elected as Mayor of Melton for 2016/17, councillor Malise Graham said his colleague had overcome many ‘fences’ during his 16 years served on the council, also adding that Mr Wright’s wife, and new Mayoress, Maureen, would be a ‘wonderful ambassador for the Melton borough’.

Mr Wright, who was elected at Melton Council’s annual meeting, previously served as Mayor in 2004/05.

Mr Wright, a Conservative borough councillor who represents the Bottesford ward, has lived and worked in the Bottesford parish all his life and ran his own business for 20 years. He is also a Bottesford parish councillor and former chairman of the parish council.

A vote of thanks was given to outgoing Mayor Jeanne Douglas who said she’d had a ‘truly marvellous year’ serving as Mayor. A vote of thanks was also given to her consort, Robert Abel-Smith.

Councillor Douglas thanked her outgoing Deputy Mayor Simon Lumley, her consort Mr Abel-Smith and fellow councillors.
