Two crews from Melton were joined by others from the Eastern and Birstall stations and two from Nottinghamshire at the incident, at East End in the village.

The fire was reported at 6.46am and the fire service spent several hours dealing with the flames, using two hose reel jets and a main jet, and making the building safe.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Calls were received to a large derelict house involved in fire.

“Upon arrival, additional appliances were requested due to the whole building being fully involved in fire.”
