Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following collision and fire between Melton and Oakham

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital by air ambulance following a serious road traffic collision yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the crash on the A606 at Leesthorpe, near to the junction with Pickwell Road, at 1.14pm.

A Toyota Avensis had collided with a BMW motorcycle and the car had burst into flames.

After receiving treatment at the scene, the male motorcycle rider was airlifted to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with what police described as “serious but not life-threatening” injuries.

A passenger in the car was taken to hospital by road.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said appliances from Melton and Oakham attended the incident. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
