Melton Times letter: Group offers support to families and individuals dealing with loss of a loved one

I would like to make people aware of the Snowdrop Support Group that was set up to support anyone who has suffered a bereavement in the family and is feeling lonely and isolated.

It has now been running for a year and has helped a number of individuals and families. The main aim of the support group is to provide a social setting were those who have experienced the loss of a family member can enjoy an evening out with others who understand how they feel and can socialise and find some comfort. It is not a counselling service but those who have attended have found that it is beneficial in helping them cope with day to day living.

We meet once a month on a Thursday evening at the Toy Soldiers Band Room at the back of Wilton Road Car Park, 7pm to 9pm. We have speakers on a regular basis as well as quiz and bingo nights and hope to have possibly some craft demonstrations in the future. There is no charge but we have a raffle each meeting and a small gift for this would be appreciated occasionally.

The next meeting is on Thursday, June 16, when we will have a representative of the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance to give us a talk and presentation about what the air ambulance does and how it functions. At the meeting on August 18 we have a speaker from Trading Standards which I am sure will be beneficial to us all.

If you feel this group would be helpful to you then you would be made very welcome at the next meeting.

If you are concerned about coming on your own or have a problem with transport then we can arrange for one of our members to collect you and accompany you to the meeting and introduce you to other members.
