Melton Skatepark to be officially opened by town's new mayor

A skate '˜jam' afternoon has been organised by Melton Borough Council to mark the official opening of Melton Skatepark.

Despite the park already being used by the public as of December last year, the council intend to mark the occassion properly with a grand opening next Saturday (July 30), from 12noon to 4pm.

New Melton Mayor David Wright will take part in a ribbon cutting ceremony and there will be live music throughout the afternoon from 103 The Eye and food and drinks available from Ben’s Bites.

There will also be a prize giveaway from Milk Skateshop, Huf Footwear, Moonshine Skateboards, Keen Dist and Mars Petcare.

The free event is also being supported by Jeakins Weir and Maverick Skateparks.

Melton Skatepark cost £318,000. Members of the Melton Skate Park Group play ed a big role in the fundraising process holding their own fundraising events as well as helping to attract funding for the project. They also had an input into the eventual design.
