Melton Lions' free variety show delights senior citizens audience

The event at Melton Theatre was the 26th anniversary of the Lions’ free annual variety show and was hosted by Mark Frisby.

Among the variety of acts to perform was show producer and singer Rene Straiton, who paid tribute to the late Cilla Black, and sang songs from the musical film Beaches and Joseph.

Trevonne dance and stage school also performed with ballet and tap dancers delighting the audience, as well as Ben Barretto, who serenaded his wife and spectators.

Other highlights included Daniel Hand who wowed the audience with his song ‘Electricity’ from Billy Elliot, and the Melton Musical Theatre Company closed the first half of the show with excerpts from their forthcoming show Oliver at Melton Theatre in March.

Opening the second half of the show was nine-year-old singer Kelsey Farwell, who delighted senior citizens with her song ‘When I Grow Up’ from Matilda, and the Melstrum Ukulele Orchestra got hands clapping and feet tapping to close the show in their usual impressive style.

Host Mark Frisby also got in on the action and performed songs including ‘I Dreamed a Dream,’ ‘Love Changes Everything’ and ‘Moon River.’

Lions president John Illingwoth gave a vote of thanks to the artists, host, stage manager, lighting and sound manager and theatre staff. Lions district governor Paul Stafford thanked everyone on behalf of the audience and Melton Mayor Jeanne Douglas gave her thanks and expressed her delight for the show.
