Man died from choking on his food

FRIDAY 11AM: A man suffering from dementia died after choking on a piece of food, a coroner's court heard.

John Nicholson (85) lived in Wymeswold Court Care Centre and was found to be struggling for breath on August 27.

Staff at the home tried to resuscitate him but called paramedics who pronounced him dead.

A post-mortem examination discovered the cause of death was food stuck in his throat preventing him from breathing.

Coroner Trevor Kirkman, sitting at Loughborough, recorded a verdict of accidental death.

He said: "I am very, very sorry indeed to have heard the report of this tragic death."
