The pupils created a soup with smoky pumpkin and beetroot grown on the school’s allotment. Their recipe also included Red Poll milk and Colwick cheese from the Belvoir Ridge Creamery.

Head teacher Margaret Cox said: “The soup was first made by the children and then tasted by judges in the preliminary round, at the East of England Showground.

“We were delighted that our recipe was put through to the final tasting at the Asda Peterborough store. Here, the soup was made by the restaurant on site, and customers were asked to taste test the soup and vote for their favourite.

“We finished second overall and are looking forward to enjoying our prize of a pizza making session at the Asda store, Grantham.

“It was an amazing achievement and we’re very grateful to everyone who helped us.”
