Friends pay tribute to well-known Melton woman Irene Webb

Friends have been paying tribute to a woman who was well loved by many in the town.

Irene Webb was a well-known face behind the counters of various shops and charities in the town.

Irene, who lived in Sysonby Street, died suddenly while walking in Bradgate Park, Leicester, earlier this month.

Her close friend Lillian Backshall said: “She was a very generous friend. She was well-known by everybody, She was always there for people.”

Another friend, Gail McAree, who runs the Age Concern charity shop in town, said Irene had popped in to the shop every morning for about ten years and would often buy something.

Gail said: “She came in every morning and then went to work. It was a great shock when she died. Nobody could believe it.

“She was a really chatty lady, bright and always had time to chat to people. She was lovely. I think everybody would have known her. She had her own shop and then she went to work at the Furniture Project.”

Irene worked at the Home Bargains store in the Bell Centre before helping her son Jonathan run two stores which he opened, Dazzle in King Street and Home Buys in the Mall shopping centre.
