Five star rating for country hotel after food inspection

Scalford Country House Hotel has won a five-star food hygiene rating just weeks after reopening under new owners.

The beautiful Edwardian property near Melton Mowbray was awarded the top ranking following an inspection by environmental health officers from Melton Borough Council.Five stars signifies that hygiene standards are very good and fully comply with the law.The accolade is a glowing recognition of the efforts of the hard-working team at the formerhunting lodge, which has had a new lease of life since being taken over by experienced hotelierGurnam Singh.General manager Amanda Burton said: “This is fabulous news. We have passed our first testwith flying colours and I am delighted for the team who have worked so hard to make thishappen.“It’s great that customers can enjoy our delicious food knowing it has been safely and expertlyprepared and presented.”Now is the time to put Scalford’s chefs to the test by sampling from the newly launched bar andSunday lunch menus.The three-course Sunday lunch with coffee is a treat at £19.95 per person. The menu changesweekly, and this Sunday it kicks things off with a choice from homemade vegetable soup withbread roll, beer battered halloumi or smoked salmon and shallot salad.The main course is either a mouthwatering traditional roast beef with Yorkshire pudding orhoney roasted ham with mustard mash, both served with roast potatoes and seasonalvegetables.Vegetarians can opt for the delicious mushroom stroganoff and rice.Pudding features homemade fruit strudel with ice cream, homemade Scalford’s millionaire'sshortbread sundae or a selection of ice cream and sorbets.Service is from noon until 3pm but booking is essential to avoid disappointment.The daily bar menu has also been revealed, with a fabulous selection of traditional offeringssuch as ham, egg and chips, beer battered fish and chips and homemade lasagne.A particular customer favourite is the Scalford’s ploughman’s - cheddar cheese, brie, localstilton, pickles and Melton Mowbray pork pie with coleslaw, salad and warm crusty bread for£6.95.Other tempting treats include homemade pie of the day with mashed potato, fresh vegetablesand gravy (£8.95), chicken masala curry served with basmati, naan bread, chutney andpoppadoms (£8.50), and Scalford’s homemade burger with triple-cooked chips, homemadecoleslaw, salad garnish and pickled gherkins (£8.95).Salads include grilled breast of chicken and bacon on shredded iceberg lettuce, tomatoes,cucumber, diced peppers and red onions (£7.45) and quinoa salad - quinoa, broccoli, fetacheese, pomegranate, macadamia nuts and edamame beans with a citrus dressing served on abed of mixed salad leaves (£6.95).There is also an extensive selection of salads and baguettes including cheddar cheese withapple and pear chutney (£4.25) and the vegetarian club sandwich - mozzarella, beef tomato,avocado and basil in toasted bread (£5.45).The bar menu is served Monday to Saturday from 12 noon to 8pm and Sunday from 5pm to7pm.Scalford Country House Hotel is a stunning former hunting lodge built in 1908 and set in thebeautiful Leicestershire countryside.
