Fire crews battle with blaze at industrial estate near Melton

A crew from the town station has been joined at the incident, which is at the commercial park on St Bartholomew’s Way, by appliances from Loughborough, Birstall and the city’s Eastern station, along with a Command Support Vehicle from Shepshed.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: “A call was received about smoke issuing from the roof of a large industrial unit.

“On arrival, crews located the fire in a shredding unit of a fridge recycling centre.

“Crews have used four breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and a covering jet to tackle the fire.

“The fire has now been extinguished and the shredder is being dismantled and allowed to cool.”
