The scheme will see 13.56 hectares (around 33 acres) of trees put in across 11 discrete sites around the River Eye.

It is being paid for through funding of £124,500 awarded to the Trent Rivers Trust by the government’s Green Recovery Challenge Fund.

This project supports nature-based projects to restore nature, tackle climate change and connect people with the natural environment.

Rutland and Melton MP, Alicia Kearns, said: “I welcome this significant boost to local ecology which will also support green jobs in our area.

“I’m grateful to the Trent Rivers Trust for working to transform our landscape and improve local air quality.”

The River Eye is one of 68 projects that will see over 800,000 trees planted to help restore damaged habitats such as moorlands, wetlands and forests.
