Coronavirus: Melton Library and some local waste sites closed until further notice

Residents have been told that Melton Library and some recycling and household waste sites in the area have been closed from this weekend as part of County Hall’s measures to proritise public safety during the coronavirus outbreak.

Waste sites at Somerby and Bottesford are now closed until further notice although Lake Terrace, in the town, remains open.

Leicestershire County Council has also closed all of its libraries, including the Melton service on Wilton Road.

Events, activities, adult learning classes and clubs due to take place in all libraries have been cancelled as well and tems currently out on loan will not be due for return until May 1.

It follows the council’s earlier announcement that it was closing museums, including Melton Carnegie Museum on Thorpe End.

County Hall leader Nick Rushton said: “Our focus is keeping critical services running, particularly those supporting vulnerable people.

“As well as the closures announced, some events will be cancelled – so we would advise people to keep in touch by following the national guidance, our website and social media channels.”
