Centenarian donates birthday trees

THREE native trees, which were presented to Whissendine from a centenarian resident to celebrate her birthday, have been planted.

The trees, given by Jessie Tasney last year, were planted at the edge of the village playground to help provide screening and add to the biodiversity of the area.

The site for the trees was chosen following a survey of possible sites and consultation with neighbouring properties.

The planting was undertaken by members of the Whissendine Environment Group (WEG), with assistance from 101 year-old Mrs Tasney.

Mrs Tasney has also donating another two native trees, which the environment group is looking to plant.
