Residents can visit the Bottesford one again from Thursday July 30 while the Somerby site is to open again on Sunday August 16.

Safety measures will be in place with Bottesford available three days a week, from Thursday to Saturday, and Somerby two days a week, on Sundays and Mondays.

Users must book an appointment in advance to keep visitors and staff safe through social distancing and online bookings can be made for the Bottesford facility from Friday July 17.

Leicestershire County Council closed all its waste sites in mid-March although some, including Melton’s Lake Terrace, reopened in mid-May.

Councillor Trevor Pendleton, cabinet member for waste disposal, said: “We’d like to thank residents for their understanding and patience during this time.

“We appreciate that, in some situations, people have had to travel further than they normally would to dispose of their waste - and these further re-openings will help this situation.

“We are continuing to monitor government guidance closely to ensure we can offer a safe and resilient service going forward.”

Melton’s site will continue to be open for the extended period of seven days a week although arrangements will be subject to change as more sites re-open.
