Police use chainsaw to carry out drugs raid in Melton

Police officers used a chainsaw to cut through a door on a drugs raid in Melton this morning (Monday).

Officers from the local neighbourhood policing area were executing a warrant at an address in the town centre in an effort to combat Class A drug dealing in the area.

Pc Davey Rawlings said: “The police have numerous tools at their disposal to gain entry in to a property, on this occasion a chainsaw was used to allow swift entry.

“This is not usual practice but when circumstances dictate it is a tactic that we can deploy.”

Enquiries are ongoing in relation to the action carried out today.

He added: “People living and working in the town centre still say that drug dealing and taking there is still a priority hence why we focus on it.”
