Thankfully nothing was stolen and the man made off empty handed over the back garden fence.

He is white, aged between 25 and 35, between 5ft 11ins and 6ft tall and of slim build. He had dark hair and was wearing a jacket and jeans.

Detective Constable Lee Fowler, who is investigating, said: “Clearly there are opportunist thieves out there who look for open or unlocked doors and windows. When they find one, it’s often very easy for them to steal items left close by and on display. “Our advice is to always lock your doors and ensure your windows are secure even if you’re in the house.”

l Anyone who has any information about the burglary should call Dc 395 Lee Fowler on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
