A 31-year-old Melton woman was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an ambulance paramedic who had arrived to treat her.

The incident was reported around 2am on Friday in Sysonby Street in the town.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: “A 31-year-old woman was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault by beating on an emergency worker

“The woman has been released pending further enquiries.”

Melton Police posted a Tweet in connection with the incident, which read: “Fortunately a rare occurrence in Melton but still very disappointing.

“We don’t take kindly to people who assault ambulance crews.”
