Melton man (28) pleads guilty to causing crash with school bus

A 28-year-old Melton man has admitted causing a collision with a school bus in the town by driving without due care and attention.

Andrew Atkinson, of Staveley Road, appeared before Loughborough magistrates to face the charge, which relates to an incident on Eastfield Avenue in March this year.

Bus driver Melissa Deans was injured in the collision with Atkinson’s Vauxhall Combo when he failed to give way at a junction, the magistrates were told.

The defendant also admitted further charges of not being properly insured and driving with a licence which had expired.

A community order was made against Atkinson requiring him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work within 12 months.

He was ordered to pay £90 to fund victim services and £85 in court costs.

Atkinson was also disqualified from driving for six months.
