Melton drink drivers banned after court hearings

A number of motorists from the Melton area have appeared in court on drink driving charges.

Katarzyna Malicka was banned for 18 months and ordered to pay a total of £635 when she appeared at Loughborough Magistrates’ Court.

Miss Malicka (40), of Grange Drive, Melton, was found to have 79 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - more than twice the legal limit - when she was stopped by police on Station Approach in the town on June 1.

She admitted the charge plus an offence of driving without insurance and was fined £500 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and £50 to fund victim services.

Melton man Eriks Saveljevs was more than twice the legal limit when he was tested by officers near his home in Sysonby Street.

He admitted the charge and a further count of driving a motor vehicle for which he didn’t have a licence for.

Saveljevs (45) was banned from driving for 20 months for the offences, committed on June 9, and ordered to pay £419 in fines and costs.

Edward Stimson, of Asfordby Road, Melton, is now serving a 12-month ban after being caught drink driving in a Vauxhall Astra on Sandy Lane in the town on May 16.

Stimson (31) was fined £230 and told by JPs to pay £85 in court costs and £34 to fund victim services.

Simon Bruce, of Queniborough, was more than three times the legal limit when he was given a breath test on June 16.

Bruce (54), of The Ringway, was stopped by officers on Ratby Road, Groby.

He pleaded guilty but sentencing was adjourned until October 16 for pre-sentence reports to be prepared by the probationary service.
