Gang face jail for lead thefts

Three Lithuanian men face jail sentences after they pleaded guilty to stealing lead from churches across the area, including at Little Dalby

Tadas Andruska (35), Andrius Cereska (30) and Andrius Kvedavas (30), all from Lincoln, were remanded into custody after they admitted a charge of conspiring to steal lead belonging to the Church of England.

The trio entered their guilty pleas during a hearing at Lincoln Crown Court.

Police made the arrests after a six-month intelligence-led operation into metal thefts from 22 churches across Lincolnshire between the 1 January and 24 September, last year.

The Grade Two listed St James the Greater Church at Little Dalby was also targeted by lead thieves between 23 and 26 August, 2011.

Two other men from Lincoln denied the charge of conspiracy and a sixth man denied a charge of handling stolen lead. They will go on trial later this summer.
