Council tenant jailed after breaching anti-social behaviour injunction

Matthew Perry (52), a tenant of Charnwood Council, was served the injunction in November barring him from contacting his neighbours and engaging in threatening or nuisance behaviour.

Perry, who lived at a property in Walkers Way, Syston, breached the order soon after it was served and was given two 12-week suspended prison sentences to be served concurrently if the order was breached again.

Perry breached the order again at the end of January and appeared at Leicester County Court where he was given a further four-week prison sentence to be served concurrently with the suspended sentences.

The court also granted the council’s application for possession of the property in Walkers Way on the grounds of Perry’s anti-social behaviour and rent arrears.

Councillor Leigh Harper-Davies, cabinet member for housing, said: “This case is a good example of the consequences of tenants refusing offers of help and not taking opportunities to change their behaviour and keep their tenancy.

“We take all the steps we can to support tenants and give them chances to stay in their homes but ultimately we will take the necessary action to protect other tenants and will not tolerate anti-social behaviour.”
