Four historic churches have been targeted by roofing lead thieves within the space of five days.

The Church of St Mary the Virgin at Wyfordby, near Melton, had lead stripped from its roof on Saturday, August 6. The church had already been counting the cost of previous lead thefts earlier this year.

The other incidents were are St Edmund in Egleton, near Rutland Water, on Thursday, August 4, St Mary’s in Manton, also near Rutland Water, on Sunday, August 7 and All Saints in Lubenham, near Market Harborough, on Monday, August 8.

It’s understood the thieves were stopped from taking the lead away from St Edmund after they triggered an alarm.

Anyone with any information about the thefts should call Leicestershire Police on 101.
