Callous thief steals collection box from Melton charity shop

The donated cash was being collected for the Marie Curie Great Daffodil Appeal, raising funds for Marie Curie nurses and in support of people living with a terminal illness and their families.

The yellow collection box was stolen from the charity’s Nottingham Street shop between 3pm and 4pm on Tuesday.

Assistant manager Lindsay Roberts said: “It’s a disgrace. No words can describe someone who would steal from a charity, it makes me feel sick.

“The collection box was about three quarters full and I know it had notes in there as well. It’s very disheartening when something like this happens and we can only hope we get the money back.”

On a happier note the Melton shop is celebrating its one year anniversary in store on Saturday.

Shop volunteers will be bringing in home-made cakes for sale, there will be a tombola and daffodils will be given to customers.

Customers will also be able to buy a daffodil ‘petal’ for £1, £2 or £5 to write their personal messages in memory of lost loved ones. A memory book (50p per page) is also in store for people to write their personal messages.

As part of the shop’s fundraising drive a ‘big cake sale’ is also planned to take place at The Grove Primary School next Friday.
