The High Sheriff of Leicestershire, Professor Surinder Sharma, and his wife, Mrs Vijay Sharma, will visit Melton on Wednesday 31 August.

Hosting them will be the Mayor and Mayoress of Melton, Coun David Wright and Mrs Maureen Wright, along with Coun Pam Posnett, Leader of Melton Borough Council.

The day’s itinerary includes a visit to the Storehouse Food Bank after Prof Sharma expressed a keen interest in seeing the work of the local voluntary project, Storehouse, as part of his visit to the town. Storehouse offers food, clothing, bedding, baby equipment and other household items to those living in the borough who have been referred by one of the local agencies.

It also offers advice and support to anyone in need and is open three times a week, providing hot drinks and snacks on Monday and Wednesday mornings and a soup and bread lunch on Friday afternoons. Storehouse is run by Melton Vineyard church and supported by Churches Together in Melton, as well as other local organisations, businesses and individuals.

The Mayor and his guests will have an opportunity to talk to both Storehouse volunteers and those using the service, and to see how the project works. They will also get to meet the new Storehouse Co-ordinator, Caroline Webb, who takes up her post just one day earlier.

The High Sheriff’s visit to Melton will also include a trip to Dickinson and Morris in Nottingham Street, the Council’s Me and My Learning project based at Phoenix House, and the Melton Learning Hub. The visit will conclude at 103 The Eye and an interview with the High Sheriff live on air after 4pm.
