Church ready to open for start of Melton Christmas Tree Festival

St Mary's Christmas Tree Festival is perhaps the largest of its kind in the country with over 1,000 magical displays.

It will see the church lit up for Advent with a display of festive trees of all shapes and sizes decorated by local businesses, charities, schools and community groups.

The festival will be opened at a preview buffet and wine evening on Thursday at 7pm for 7.30pm. The evening will include an opening service, carols and the switching on of lights. Tickets cost £7 and are available from the Parish Office at the Samworth Centre.

Five public open days will follow with entry then £2 for adults and free for under 12s.

The church will be open from 9am to 9pm on Friday (last admission 8pm) to tie in with Melton’s Christmas lights switch-on event at 6.45pm, and from 9am to 4.30pm on Saturday (Dec 3) (last admission 4pm) with a carol concert among the trees at 5pm.

On Sunday (Dec 4) the church will again be open from 9am to 5pm (last admission 4pm), and will then reopen at 6pm for a Songs of Praise event with the Hathern Band.

On Monday (Dec 5) the opening hours are 9am to 9pm (last admission 8pm) with mulled wine and mince pies from 5pm, and your final chance to see the trees will be on Tuesday (Dec 6) from 9am to 4pm (last entry 3pm).

The festival will be closed on Tuesday (Dec 6) with a prayer by the Revd Kevin Ashby.
