Bargain buys at bowling club fair

SYSTON Bowling Club hopes visitors will be rolling in to a one-day fair featuring a whole range of stalls as well as giving people the chance to try their hand at bowls.

The fair is being held at the clubhouse in Central Park on Sunday, May 22, from 10am.

There will be stalls featuring garden produce, plants, crafts, cakes, jewellery and knick-knacks, providing a wide range of goods at bargain prices. Refreshments and a full bar service will also be available.

Club chairman Colin Grimes said: “The primary aim is to attract as many local residents as possible to the club and to encourage them to try their hand at bowls which offers men and women of all ages opportunities for gentle but healthy exercise, in a friendly and relaxed environment.

“With a range of stalls at the fair we hope to attract a lot of interest.”

He added: “We’re always open and welcoming to potential new members. “On the day of the fair our club coach and other members will be available to offer visitors the opportunity to try the sport for themselves. Apart from flat shoes (essential to protect the green surface) we will provide all other equipment.”

“It’s a sad truth that a large number of Syston residents remain unaware of the club’s existence. A larger number still probably remain unaware that the club has played an active part in the local community since 1932. We raise significant sums for local charities as well as fulfilling our sporting role.”
