Balloons go up as Melton's St Mary's Church celebrates 100 years since Roald Dahl's birth at fun-filled activities morning

A range of fun activities were taking place to celebrate 100 years since the birth of one of world’s best storytellers, Roald Dahl.

As part of the fun those attending released helium balloons in the church, attached to a piece of string, to the height they thought the Big Friendly Giant was.

There was also the chance for visitors to make some dream jars, pin the tail on Fantastic Mr Fox, decorate cakes, have a go at making Mr Twit’s beard and read up on Roald Dahl in the regular book swap. There was also a fun quiz, storytelling, chances to learn lace-making, to sling some prayers at Goliath in the prayer area and to help complete another square in the ongoing community patchwork quilt. Other activities included the usual giant board games, art and a chance to enjoy a treat at the chocolate fountain.

The organisers would like to thank the Regal Cinema in Melton which generously donated two tickets. They were won by the Kitching family after they found the winning golden ticket in chocolate which was given out during the short act of worship at the end.
