1950s theme goes down a treat with Melton's Manhattan American Diner customers

A new American diner in the town mall put on a number of fun activities for families close to Halloween.

Melton’s Manhattan American Diner which has only been open for three months held a 1950s themed day.

Attractions included a live singer, rock and roll swing dancing from dance group Want2Dance, arts and crafts and pumpkin carving.

Melton’s Community Chaplaincy also stopped by to talk to people about their project Celebration of Light, which promoted an alternative Halloween.

Owner Rachael Russell said: “We had a great day and everyone who came enjoyed themselves. There were about 20 children who attended.

“Milkshakes were served to the kids whilst adults enjoyed tea and coffee.”

Rachael also said that she has organised Grease musical themed day in support of Children in Need next Friday and Saturday (November 18 and 19).

From 1pm, both days, there will be games, raffles and vintage American cars. Staff will sing and performing arts students from Brooksby Melton College will be dancing. Fancy dress is encouraged.
