Super Saturdays to start in Melton with monthly themed market events

A series of monthly themed street markets with lots of family activities – dubbed ‘Super Saturdays’ – are to be held in Melton Mowbray.

The first of these events, which are organised by Melton Mowbray Town Estate and Melton BID, takes place on April 4 and they will run through until October.

They will each feature new market traders, live music, and family-oriented activities and are aimed at establishing the town centre as a regional destination for visitors and tourists, as well as locals.

In a boost for local commerce, the Town Estate is also offering market pitches to businesses located outside the town centre to showcase their goods.

Adding to the atmosphere, classic and vintage cars will be in attendance at every market throughout the season.

A children's disco, Punch and Judy shows, and the ‘Great Easter Egg Hunt’ in New Park are among the highlights for the first one on Saturday April 4, along with an Easter market.

Dean Rees, CEO of Melton Mowbray Town Estate, commented: "Melton Mowbray has a strong, proud tradition of markets that we are determined to build upon.

"By partnering with the Melton BID, we are focusing our efforts on making 'Super Saturdays' a major draw in the town.

"We are enhancing the classic market experience with additional content to ensure there is always something new and exciting for visitors to discover."

And James Colclough, manager of the Melton BID, added: “Melton BID is committed to the vitality of the businesses in Melton Mowbray.

"By teaming up with Melton Mowbray Town Estate, we are in a strong position to revitalise the Saturday Markets and ‘Super Saturdays’ are an exciting way to begin this.

“By curating a bigger market, that has appeal for all ages and demographics, we are set to ensure Melton Mowbray is the go-to destination for a day out in Leicestershire.”
