It will be based inside the Sainsbury’s supermarket, in Nottingham Road, and will be open to customers seven days a week.

An Argos click and collect service has been operated in Sainsbury’s since the Nottingham Street store closed but the new hub in the supermarket will have a range of products on display as well.

Jay Gopiani, service manager for the Melton Sainsbury store, told the Melton Times: “We are opening a permanent Argos hub where customers can come in, browse products and order products in the normal way.

“We’ve made the click and collect service available throughout the pandemic but this will now be a proper Argos outlet.

“We’ve had lots of customers asking us if we would be providing an Argos store so we are pleased now to be able to open one near to the clothing section in the supermarket.”

Sainsbury’s bought the Argos chain five years ago and after stores closed in March 2020 for the first coronavirus lockdown it announced that 120 standalone outlets, including the Melton town centre one, would not reopen.

The supermarket business has now reopened Argos hubs in many of its stores across the UK.

Customers can visit the new Argos hub in Sainsbury’s from 9am tomorrow.
