Melton town centre department store to close down at the weekend
Another high street chain store will be lost to Melton Mowbray town centre this Saturday.
Staff at the Original Factory Shop, in Nottingham Street, will sadly close the doors for the final time after the discount department store went into administration back in January.
It was hoped that a buyer might be found for the business, which has more than 100 branches across the UK selling top brands at heavily reduced prices.
But the Melton Mowbray branch posted on their Facebook page: “It is with heavy hearts that we officially announce our Melton Mowbray store will be closing its doors for the final time on Saturday April 4.
“We want to say a massive THANK YOU to every single customer who has been with us from the start.
"We would love to see your faces one last time, so please do pop in before we close.
“As we navigate these final days, we kindly ask for your patience and kindness.
"Our team is going through a very emotional transition, and while there will be plenty of tears and laughter, we are doing our best to give this store the send off it deserves.”
The town outlet for The Original Factory Shop was officially opened by the then Mayor of Melton, Councillor Alan Hewson, in June 2023 – it took over the unit vacated by the M&Co clothing and homeware store after that chain went into administration.
But challenging trading conditions combined with ‘an alarming drop-off in pre-Christmas footfall’ led to owners, Modella Capital announcing at the start of the year that it had initiated insolvency proceedings.
