Over 100 young trees planted in Melton Country Park
The initiative was carried out by The Friends of Melton Country Park on two very chilly days at the weekend.
The native trees planted - a mixture of hawthorn, rowan, blackthorn, silver birch, hazel and oak - were provided by The Woodland Trust as part of their national community planting programme.

Some more established trees in the park have a chronic fungal disease which causes ash dieback so it’s vital new trees continue to be planted.
The Friends have already secured another 100 trees to be planted in the spring.
Borough councillor Margaret Glancy, who took part, said: “The UK needs millions more trees to aid reaching its carbon net zero target, and by the community working together we can help to make a zero carbon Melton a reality.
“This is a step in the right direction.
“A huge thank you to the volunteers who took part in very chilly conditions.”
