Coronavirus: Melton Country Park remains open

Melton Country Park remains open despite many parklands and open spaces, including nearby Rutland Water, being closed to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

Melton Borough Council has today (Monday) confirmed it will not be closing the popular country park but has advised visitors to observe guidelines on protecting themselves and others from the Covid-19 bug by keeping a two-metre distance.

The council stated today: “The cafe and toilets at the country park are closed.

“The park remains open at this time and we ask that people follow the government guidelines on social distancing when using it at all times.”

The toilets at Wilton Road and St Mary’s Way are closed until further notice and the council say it will look to resume the services as soon as possible.

In terms of council services, all non-emergency housing repairs maintenance and home improvements for resident are now suspended

Essential cases will still be completed and tenants have been asked to make any emergency repair requests by calling 01664 502502.

Household waste and recycling sites at Bottesford and Somerby are closed until further notice but Lake Terrace is still open.

Leicestershire County Council is operating its recycling sites using government guidelines to encourage social distancing. This may involve restricting the number of visitors on site at any one time.

The borough council is suspending its bulky waste collections from today and will not be taking any bookings for collections until further notice.

Household waste and recycling will continue to be collected kerbside however the authority’s teams are unable to take small electricals.

Gretton Court, the council’s sheltered housing scheme for the frail and elderly, is not accepting visitors now.

The Melton Borough Covid-19 Support Hub has been created to co-ordinate, help and support residents across the disritc during the coronavirus outbreak. The hub will provide a place where businesses, groups and individuals who want to help and can offer services, and those who need help, can be brought together.
