How you can save money in your household budget with small changes

A new year always gets you thinking about certain areas of your life and saying ‘I don’t want to be in this position this time next year…. ‘.

If you have recently put on weight or you are concerned about your finances and desperate to be in a better place in Jan 2027, ‘something better change’, as the Stranglers sang – great record, do look it up!

I put on weight over the festive season but it’s not what happens on the scales between Christmas and the new year that counts, rather it’s what you do between the new year and next Christmas to bring the change you want to see.

If I do nothing different, if nothing changes in the way I eat, I will not loose my goal of a two-stone loss!

The same with my finances. If my spending is higher than my income, I will still be in a negative position this time next year.

What change can you bring that you can implement in each of the next 52 weeks to bring the change you want to see in your finances?

Take a specific area, maybe food shopping? Can you drop the amount you spend by £10 a week? Freeing £520 for the year could be a week’s holiday, a new settee or Christmas next year paid in cash?

Shop with a list, be targeted, research, who’s cheapest, batch cook, learn to cook – I know when I have the time and energy to put more thought into my weekly food shop, I spend less.

Imagine if you do this with each area of your expenditure, you will start to see the changes and how you can possibly free up more money to reach your financial goals, whatever they may be.
