Village publicans prepare to host popular annual music and beer festival

A village pub is preparing to host its third annual music and beer festival at the start of next month.

The Wheel Inn at Branston is putting on the event from May 1 to 4 with a strong line-up of local bands and a wide selection of ale throughout.

The festival was started by landlords, David and Sarah Bates, when they took over the Main Street pub and it is set to draw people in from surrounding areas as well as locals and regulars.

David said: “The festival will showcase a wide range of talented artists and bands, with a strong focus on local musicians covering multiple genres, creating something for everyone across the weekend.”

The couple have transformed the pub with their efforts recognised by two CAMRA awards and a silver award at this year’s British Pie Awards in the pub pie category.

"Just over three years ago, I took on The Wheel Inn in Branston at a time when it felt like our much-loved local was on the verge of closing,” said David.

“Since then, with the support of my family and the local community, we’ve worked hard to bring it back to life - and we’re incredibly proud of how far it’s come.

"It’s been a real team effort, and a reflection of the fantastic support we’ve had from both locals and visitors alike.”

Headline act at the festival on the Sunday evening are The Barefoot Doctors, who are fronted by well known drummer Jeff Rich, who played with Status Quo.

Other acts include Kit Blake, Soul FX, CJ Hatt and Gemstone.
