MP presents certificates to apprentices at Melton food company
Melton’s MP has visited one of the area’s biggest employers to meet their apprentices and present certificates.
Edward Argar was invited by food production firm, Samworth Brothers, to be special guest at the National Apprenticeship Week awards ceremony at the town’s Kettleby Foods site.

The company currently has nearly 300 apprentices working across many different job roles and recently announced it was taking on a further 24.
Mr Argar presented certificates to apprentices who recently achieved Level 2 Lean Manufacturing apprenticeships at the event, which was attended by apprentices in many job roles, including engineering, manufacturing, packaging technology, commercial and marketing.
He commented: “It was a real pleasure to be shown behind the scenes at Kettleby Foods, and to meet some of the team at the Melton Mowbray site.
"Kettleby Foods, and Samworth Brothers, are a fantastic business success story, and are not only hugely important to Melton and our community as big local employers, but also a great British business helping drive our
country’s economic success.
“But, most importantly, my visit during National Apprenticeship Week gave me the privilege as Melton’s local MP to share in the celebrations at the success of the apprentices themselves, and to present their certificates.
"I was struck not only by the apprentices’ talent but also their focus, hard work, and determination, and I wish them all every success in their careers with Samworth Brothers.”
Samworth Brothers, which is headquartered at Chetwode House off the A607 Leicester Road, currently has live learners on 31 different apprenticeship courses across its various businesses.
The company’s chief people officer, Clare Moore, told guests that the firm currently has almost 300 apprentices in fields from engineering and supply chain to finance and operations management and welcomed 124 new apprentices in 2025.
“We are extremely proud of their commitment and effort – combining their learning with on-the-job skills development,” she said.
Among the brands owned by Samworth Brothers are Dickinson & Morris, which make Melton Mowbray pork pies, Ginsters, Sorren, Higgidy, West Cornwall Pasty Co and the Leicester-based piemakers Walker & Son.
