The Melton Mowbray service which provides a lifeline for separated families

An important Melton Mowbray service which helps children and young people stay connected with parents following a family separation is being highlighted next week.

Melton Mowbray Child Contact Centre provides a neutral, safe, and child-friendly space at the Hope Centre, in Nottingham Street, every Saturday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm.

It is participating in National Contact Centre Week – which runs from June 15 to 21 – when these vital family operations will be celebrated and promoted across the UK.

Helen Dickinson, coordinator of the Melton Mowbray Child Contact Centre, said: “This important week aims to raise awareness of National Association of Child Contact Centres-accredited child contact centres and services across the UK - highlighting the vital role they play in helping children and young people stay safely connected with parents and other family members following family separation.

“This year’s campaign theme is ‘Putting Children First’ - concentrating on the importance of listening to children, understanding their experiences and ensuring their emotional wellbeing remains at the heart of decision-making.”

The Melton Mowbray group is run by trained volunteers and it enables youngsters of all ages from separated families to spend quality family time with a non-resident parent and other family members they might otherwise lose contact with.

Helen added: “We help local families maintain or rebuild vital relationships following separation.”

Call the coordinator on 07522 297102 or email [email protected] if you think the local contact centre could support your family or if you would like to volunteer with the service.
