Birthday celebrated with a U3A open day

And they have much to celebrate - having only launched in October 2015, they already have close to 210 enrolled members who take part in over 25 different interest groups with more than 100 regularly attending the monthly general meeting with an invited guest speaker.

The general meetings are held in the Malthouse Suite of the Syston Conservative Club on the second Wednesday of each month, at 10.30 am.

SADU3A Chairman Colin Grimes says: “Through the Open Day, to which everyone in the area is invited, we plan to demonstrate the wide range of activities in which our constantly expanding membership is now engaged, highlighting each group’s achievements over our first year. Through the medium of a specially prepared “loop” video programme, we plan to show how we are already following the U3A’s core message of Learn, Laugh and Live - both as individuals and as an organisation.

“As with all good parties, free refreshments will be available and, for anyone wishing to join on the day, we are offering a special, one-off, birthday discount on the first year’s membership. Since our launch, we have been forcefully struck by the many wholly positive comments and thanks that we have received from our members. For any Syston (and district)-based organisation to attract members in the hundreds in less than a year, clearly demonstrates that the U3A is meeting a real need within the community – especially those who are no longer in full-time employment, irrespective of age.”
