Party lined up to celebrate pork pie shoppe's 175th birthday

A street party on Saturday will round off a week of celebrations to mark the 175th birthday of one of Melton Mowbray’s historic businesses.

Shoppers and history lovers have enjoyed activities this week at Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe, including a heritage evening at the shop yesterday (Monday) where local historian Brian Fare and two master bakers talked about the heritage of the shop and gave attendees a chance to make a traditional Melton Pork Pie.

Today, the first 175 customers at the Nottingham Street shop were given commemorative merchandise and pie-making demonstrations are taking place through the week.

Saturday’s street party, which will be happening from 11am to 2pm, will involve pie tastings, music, games and plenty of family fun.

Richard Griffiths, the shop manager, said: “We are one of the oldest businesses in Melton Mowbray and we are proud to be the custodians.

"We’ve got loads of activities this week and we hope lots of people will come and celebrate with us."
