Great Dalby farmer thanks customers after winning a 'Rural Oscar' award
A local farmer has thanked his customers for helping his business win a prestigious award which has been dubbed a ‘Rural Oscar’.
March House Farm, at Great Dalby, was crowned Midlands Rural Enterprise Champion at the Countryside Alliance Awards and staff will now travel to the House of Lords in July to compete for the national title.

Owner, Dan Belcher, is proud of the way his farm has diversified to include an award-winning farm shop and cafe as well as a site for monthly family and community public events.
Commenting on the award, he said: “Thank you to every single customer who has taken the time to vote for our farm.
"The award reflects years of proper British farming - breeding our own livestock, taking care of the soil, maintaining high welfare standards and giving customers full confidence in where their food comes from.
"We have always believed in keeping things close to home, and to be recognised for this is a real win for us.”
The Countryside Alliance Awards recognise and celebrate businesses and individuals who make a significant contribution to rural life and local communities.
March House Farm’s win was in a category which specifically highlights businesses that showcase innovation, sustainability and excellence within the countryside economy.
It farms approximately 3,500 acres and remains one of the few farms to breed, prepare and sell its own produce entirely in-house.
The farm employs 32 team members, including five butchers, and boasts a 2,200 sq ft farm shop and a 5,000sq ft farm café.
March House Farm also stands at weekly farmers’ markets across London and sells home-made Melton Mowbray pork pies, other pies and meats.
In a bid to bring the community together and showcase British farming, Jo Belcher has opened the farm to the public via monthly events.
Customers can enjoy tractor and trailer rides, meet the animals, enjoy fresh food from the farm, monthly music events in the barn and seasonal activities.
Dan added: “Rural enterprises are the backbone of communities, and we’re proud to fly the farming flag for Leicestershire on a national stage."
March House Farm is also in the final of the Golden Cleaver Awards for the quality of the beef steak it produces.
