Revamp begins for Waterfield pools

WATERFIELD will close its swimming pools for four months on Monday while it undergoes a £2.5m modernisation.

The Everyone Active facility in Melton will undergo a refurbishment to revamp the ageing entrance area, pools and changing rooms.

It is expected that work will be completed by October.

During this time the gym will remain open, save for a brief period when builders will ‘knock through’ from the new extension, and a temporary reception area, mobile male and female changing facilities and information suite will be opened.

The gym facilities are expected to get a major facelift in the refurb, expanding to four times their current size.

The new gym will include a large weights and cardio area and youth zone, for eight to 16 year olds, with dance mats, interactive bikes and active sports wall.

A group exercise studio and spin studio will also be built, which will be suitable for dance, fitness and gymnastics classes.

Although the flume pool will close to make way for the expansion, the teaching pool will be improved to accommodate babies and small children, new steps are being installed and new play equipment purchased.

The reception area will be opened up and the changing rooms will be given a makeover with communal style family changing facilities for pool users and separate dry changing areas for male and female gym users.

Although the pools will be closed this summer, Waterfield will be running a childrens’ football camp and adult bootcamp.
