“It is strange to think that 40 years have passed so quickly, it’s only when you stand at this point in your life that you realise how quick time goes.”

Amanda began nursing at the age of 18 at the Sheffield School of Nursing and she has worked at a variety of hospitals, including Rotherham General, Hull Royal Infirmary and Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

She cared for young patients in paediatrics as she was also trained in children’s nursing, before moving to minor injuries work at Goole District Hospital, then Newark Hospital prior to taking up her role at Latham House.

“I wanted to be a nurse as young as five,” recalled Amanda.

“I often played nurses and my poor little brother was often bandaged up.

“That’s all I ever wanted to do all through school.”

Her family came to the Melton area in 15 years ago when they relocated to Burton Lazars because of Amanda’s husband’s work.

Their children attended the old King Edward VII School and Amanda started to work in the minor injuries treatment unit at Latham House in January 2006,

She added: “I have such a lot of memories from over the years, some good, some sad.

“My thoughts now are after 40 years of nursing is that I have done my bit and I should step down but the Covid issues have made me hesitant to finish work and leave the lovely team that I work with, but I hope to retire in the near future.”
