Police fine four for flouting Covid rules in Melton

Police have issued four people with fines for flouting coronavirus restrictions at an address in Melton.

The offenders will have to pay £200 each for the transgression, or £100 if they pay within 14 days.

It follows new lockdown restrictions imposed by the government a week ago to deal with a spike in Covid cases across England.

Residents must not meet those from other households or with people from outside their home either indoors or in a private garden, at least until December 2.

PC Davey Rawlings, of the Melton neighbourhood policing unit, said after issuing the tickets on Monday night: “Four people have been issued Covid-19 tickets after being found in a gathering within an address.

“We will continue to explain, engage, and encourage, but if it is wilful, blatant disregard for the regulations and everyone’s safety then it is straight to an enforcement.”
