There is no longer an option to pre-book an appointment for a vaccine jab for people living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The local NHS this week offered a limited number of such appointments for those in priority groups - to those aged over 70 and clinically extremely vulnerable - but those spots have all now been booked.

All who are eligible in the first roll-out of the vaccine are now asked to wait for an invitation to have their jab.

A spokesperson for the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust said: “An amazing response from the public has enabled the local NHS to fill time-limited COVID-19 vaccine appointments and prevent the waste of precious vaccine supplies.

“The slots, which were advertised on Monday January 25 and were available until February 1 at the Leicester General Hospital, Leicester Royal Infirmary and Glenfield Hospital vaccination centres for people in priority groups, have now been filled.

“This mechanism for booking is now closed.”

The trust spokesperson added: “People shouldn’t worry if they haven’t been able to get one of the slots as those who are eligible will be invited for their vaccination soon.”

Current priority groups for the vaccine (in order) are:

***Residents in a care home for older adults and their carers;
