Melton Mowbray Town Estate, which manages the town parks, the street market and leisure venues, was due to hold the event on Monday October 5, at St Mary’s Church.

The decision was taken by the 471-year-old organisation following the banning of gatherings of more than six people introduced this week.

Appointments for town estate vacancies will instead be approved without the approval of a formal vote.

They are all considered to have been properly proposed and seconded and have completed the appropriate declarations of eligibility and can therefore be elected unopposed.

Ian Wilkinson is senior townwarden and Tim Webster junior townwarden for the year until next October.

James Culy, Malcolm Davies, Peter Roffey and Richard Sage are similarly appointed at town estate feoffees.

John Southerington, chair of feoffees, said: “The Melton Mowbray Town Estate would like to take this opportunity to express on behalf of the board of feoffees, our thanks to Andrew Cooper, who retired from the position of the town bailiff this year and Billy Boulding and all his staff for their hard work, especially the care of the town centre parks and gardens which is a credit to them.

“We would also like to thank the workforce in the provision of services in Wilton Park. Sysonby Acres and Asfordby Acres and those involved in our core activity with the street markets.”

The report and accounts for the town estate, ending March 31, 2020, are available online until the end of October.

Anyone wishing to make comment or notes regarding them can contact Melton Mowbray Town Estate Office, 2 Park Lane, Melton Mowbray, LE13 OPT, or email them at [email protected] no later than October 31, 2020, so these can be noted at the next meeting of the board.
