Five people arrested for hare coursing in Melton

Five teenagers were arrested yesterday (Sunday) on suspicion of taking part in hare coursing in Melton.

Police responded shortly after noon after receiving a report about suspicious activity in the area of Sandy Lane.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: “Officers attended and five people were arrested on suspicion of hare coursing – an 18-year-old man of Nuneaton, an 18-year-old man of Hinckley, an 18-year-old man of Newark and two 15-year-old boys of Newark.

“A Mazda vehicle was also seized.

“The five people arrested have since been released on conditional bail.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

Police also dealt with the group in relation to them flouting coronavirus restrictions which allow people to meet only one person outdoors from another household.

The spokesperson added: “Three fixed penalty notices were also issued in relation to breaches of Covid-19 restrictions.

“The amount of the fines issued is dependent on a number of factors including when the fine is paid.”
