40 per cent of Melton borough adults have had first Covid jab

The statistics, which cover the period up to March 7, reveal that 19,655 people in this district have had the first of two required doses.

In terms of the town, just short of 10,000 people have received their initial vaccination, which represents more than a third of all residents.

Across the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland area, 365,445 of adults have had at least one jab (41 per cent) with just over 13,000 having so far had both jabs.

Figures covering the East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group area, show that 94.2 per cent of people aged 60 or over have had a first dose.

In older adult care homes in Leicestershire, 95.9 per cent of residents and 75.6 per cent of staff have had their first jab - that is eligible people who had not tested positive for Covid in the 28 days before the injection.

All of these figures are likely to be significantly higher by now due to the lag in reporting.

Most residents have had their jabs at the vaccination centre at Melton Sports Village.
