Primary school responds after Covid case reported

Staff at a village primary school near Melton are taking steps to limit further spread of coronavirus there after an individual tested positive for the virus.

Waltham-on-the-Wolds CE Primary School is the latest local school to have reported a case following a number of others at schools in Melton and surrounding villages.

Nigel Smith, chair of governors at the Waltham school, said: “We can confirm that there has been a positive test for coronavirus at Waltham-on-the-Wolds CE Primary School.

“Keeping our pupils, staff and local communities’ safe is our highest priority.

“We have followed government guidance and taken all of the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus and protect our pupils and staff.

“We are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England’s Local Health Protection Team.”

Covid cases in the Waltham, Great Dalby and Wymondham area - villages are grouped in official statistics on the virus - have been higher than most other rural areas of Melton borough, with 23 reported there in the seven days up to Wednesday.
